What is Vintage Fashion?

We hear the term vintage all the time, whether it is talking about fashion, movies or even cars? But what does vintage mean? Well, in regard to fashion it refers to clothes that were created in a previous era, typically at least 20 years ago.

A vintage piece of clothing is an item that has been pre-loved but is highly appreciated today due to its uniqueness, style, and timelessness.

However, not all clothes from previous decades can be classed as vintage, for example, a great pair of Levi jeans from the 90s is much more valuable than your worn old Nike sweatshirt.

The quality of the piece is where it holds its value and appeal.

Be a conscious fashion consumer

As we become more aware of the environmental damage we are inflicting, our buying habits are shifting. We are increasingly demanding more environmentally friendly products and practices that are more sustainable.

Vintage markets and charity shops have all seen a boom in popularity in recent years. So have websites that allow you to swap, rent and buy what’s in your wardrobe.

For years, consumers have been drawn in by the allure of ‘fast fashion,’ wanting the latest catwalk trends and high-fashion designs quickly and at extremely low rates thanks to mass production.

However, many of us are now taking a stand against fast fashion, and ‘slow fashion’ is rapidly becoming the more environmentally friendly way to shop.
